关于must be在过去时的从句中
有一段短文:A strange story has circulated among the divers on North Sea Oil rigs. Last week a diving team went down. They work at a depth of sixty feet under water. At first, they work went on well, but some time later, one diver reported that he got a nasty bump in the dark. It sounded like a joy. On hearing the news, the men on the rigs laughed. but the diver who had been bumped believed that there must be a moster. 最后一句there must be 是该用must be还是must have been为什么?

fltaguy 对“关于must be在过去时的从句中”的回答:
从语法角度来讲,最后一句中的there must be改为there must have been更为妥当,但也不可认为there must be就错了,平时也经常这样用的。不过在正式的书面写作中,可以严谨一些。
下面是外教关于此问题的回复:
I see you want to use "there must be/have been", so in that
case let the sentence read: Upon hearing the news, the men on the rig
laughed, but the diver who had been bumped still believed that there must
have been a monster in his work space.
You can say 'have been' because this sentence and the whole story speaks of
something in the past.
另外最后一个单词moster是不是应该为monster,怪物/怪兽?
