A survey was carried out on the death rate of new-born babies in that region, the results of which were surprising.
句子中的那个逗号不能省略。整句为非限定性定语从句，可以填the results of which，也可以写whose results。
其实简单化就是： The survey's results were surprising. 一下就清楚了。
注意：句中survey是调研的意思
